Today on the Pod, my guest talks about how the events of the 9/11 terror attacks in New York City were the seed that God used to send her into a lifelong pursuit of bringing the glorious Gospel to Arab Muslims in the Middle East.
My guest talks about how years of playing basketball helped build the character she needed to learn Arabic and the culture. It takes discipline and commitment over a long period of time, as well as failing over and over, and yet getting back up the next day and doing it all over again when you don’t feel like it.
No one has brought this up with me before in my over one hundred conversations with cross-cultural workers. Team sports can prepare you for the mission field! I love it!

I think learning language, you think, oh, okay, yeah, I’ll go overseas, I’ll learn the language, and then go and continue doing ministry, doing church planting or whatever it is. But you don’t realize how difficult it is, and how many years it takes, and the perseverance it takes to have a deep spiritual conversation. It takes a lot of time, investment, and patience. That’s why I’m grateful for the experience the Lord gave me in college basketball. I felt like He used it to shape my character and teach me about His character.
