Today on the Pod, I talk to the author of the book, “A Brighter Vision: Rethinking the way we see missions, movements, and making disciples.”

My guest helps us see the dangers of trusting in our methods over our relationship with God. In a world where missions seems to be all about “more” and “faster,” my guest helps us see the importance of an unhurried relationship with God.

What this can amount to is a new kind of legalism—one that is fixated not on outward righteousness but on outward fruitfulness. We can unintentionally communicate to new believers that knowing Christ is mainly about spreading him. In this way we are actually recruiting disciples from the nations into a religion that is not so different from the one they may have left. In a real way they are still trying to please God by their actions; just in this case it has become the actions that lead to multiplication.
