Pod #107 Godly Grit: Unshakable Resilience & Grit For Life & Leadership

A field guide for facing challenges to the glory of God

Today on the Pod, I’m talking with Kyle Farran about his two books, Overflowing and Godly Grit. Kyle wants cross-cultural workers to be spiritually healthy and for our ministry to flow from our relationship with God, not from feeling like we have to do more for God.

Kyle is also passionate about seeing cross-cultural workers become resilient and able to withstand the constant challenges we face on the field. But in order to become resilient, we need grit- not the grit that comes from trying hard, but Godly Grit, the kind of grit that flows from confidence in God during our darkest moments.

I was going through some studies and came across a Haitian proverb that says, “Behind mountains are more mountains”. And I realized that so many times we have the wrong perspective. I would push and push, thinking, if I can just get through this, then it’ll be okay. I would never say that, because it doesn’t actually jive with what I really believe, but in the reality of what I was probably living like, that’s more like what it was. And so that realization that, you know what, there are going to be challenges. We need to wrestle with that and be okay with it, because it changes how we see all of life.
